LAHORE, July 27, 2025 – In a landmark development for Pakistan’s higher education landscape, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) was officially launched through a strategic academic alliance with Arizona State University (ASU), USA. Positioned as a next-generation hub for advanced learning, research, and entrepreneurship, the NIT is expected to transform how technology and innovation are taught and scaled in Pakistan.
The launch ceremony, held in Lahore, was attended by leading educationists, government officials, private sector leaders, and an ASU delegation. Christin K. Hawkins, the U.S. Consul General in Lahore, called the initiative a symbol of the long-standing US-Pakistan educational partnership and its shared vision for youth empowerment.
“This is more than an institute—it’s a beacon of opportunity for young Pakistanis. Through this partnership, we are building bridges of knowledge and innovation that connect Pakistan to the world,” Hawkins emphasized.
She noted that the institute will be a platform where Pakistani students can dive into emerging global fields like AI, renewable energy, digital entrepreneurship, data sciences, and sustainable development, supported by world-class training and cross-border collaboration.

Shahzeb Shabbir, Founder and CEO of NIT, highlighted the urgency behind establishing such an institution in Pakistan.

Shabbir emphasized that NIT is a Pakistani initiative built with global insights, aiming to close the skill gap in sectors like robotics, climate tech, advanced manufacturing, and applied engineering.

Cagri Bagcioglu, Executive Director of Global Academic Initiatives at ASU, reaffirmed their long-term commitment to NIT’s growth.
“From co-developing the curriculum to enabling faculty exchanges and research incubation, ASU will work closely with NIT to shape a dynamic, student-centric academic model. This is a key part of ASU’s global innovation mission.”
