Bangladesh has introduced 500 scholarships for outstanding Pakistani students as part of its efforts to boost bilateral cooperation.
The announcement was made in Lahore during a meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Dr. Khalid Hussain. Also present were PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. MD Iqbal Hussain Khan.
Maryam Nawaz commended Bangladesh’s achievements in the garment sector, microfinance, and women’s empowerment, calling them significant drivers of social progress. She expressed Punjab’s willingness to collaborate with Bangladesh in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and disaster management to deepen regional partnerships.
Nawaz Sharif emphasized the strong cultural and historical bonds between the two nations, honoring national hero MM Alam. He lauded Bangladesh’s economic development and welfare programs, underlining the importance of broader cooperation.
Dr. Khalid Hussain acknowledged the Nawaz family’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and praised Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, reaffirming Bangladesh’s intent to advance ties with Pakistan.
High Commissioner MD Iqbal Hussain Khan highlighted Nawaz Sharif’s pivotal role in Pakistan’s nuclear program and noted the admiration of Bangladeshi youth for him. He also appreciated Maryam Nawaz’s welfare initiatives, describing them as beneficial for the people of Punjab.
