Textbook Error in Punjab: Class 9 Author Confuses Computer Mouse with Rodent

The Punjab School Education Department has initiated an investigation after a major blunder was discovered in the Class 9 Computer Science textbook. The author mistakenly translated the term “computer mouse” as chooha (rat), treating it as the animal rather than the input device.

The mistake surfaced in Chapter 11, Computer Science and Entrepreneurship. Following this, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority (PCTB) has requested a detailed explanation and submission of all relevant documents.

Officials confirmed that the Director of Curriculum and Compliance has been instructed to provide a report within 24 hours.

In computer science terminology, a “mouse” refers to a hardware device used to control the cursor on screen. Rendering it as a rodent changes the context entirely, creating confusion for students and compromising the integrity of technical education.
